NHL awards regular-season trophies for season cut short

It's the third time in a row and ninth overall that Ovechkin has claimed the trophy.

The NBA would be smart to ax the remaining regular-season games and put this plan into motion. The Bruins were awarded the Presidents' Trophy (best regular-season record), while David Pastrnak, Tuukka Rask, and Jaroslav Halak earned individual honors.

Draisaitl, 24, is the first German-born player to lead the National Hockey League in scoring after posting 43 goals and 110 points in 71 games.

Ovechkin, who missed one game, played in 68 games, putting him on pace to score 57 if he had finished the season. Oilers general manager Ken Holland praised Draisaitl for producing at that clip playing with and apart from captain Connor McDavid.

In the West, the Blues, who defeated the Bruins in Game 7 of last year's Cup Final, held the No. 1 seed when play was suspended 77 days ago due to the coronavirus pandemic. He continues to take steps forward in his career.

Under the league's plan to return to play, which was announced Tuesday, the would-be top-seed Bruins will play a round-robin tournament with the other leading teams in the Eastern Conference - Tampa Bay, Washington, and Philadelphia - to determine playoff seeding.

But the 48 goals are enough to make Pastrnak the Bruins' first Rocket Richard victor since the award's introduction in 1999, and the first B's player to lead the league in goals since Esposito's aforementioned 1974-75 season.

Through 70 games, the Bruins had leads of eight points over the Lightning, 10 over the Capitals and 11 over the Flyers. "To kind of have three games dictate where we fall in the conference standings is a little disappointing".

However, in order to avoid the league's best teams entering the playoffs cold, they'll play a small round-robin tournament first. "By getting a bye, [top seeds] are going to face a team that just came out of a competitive series. The benefit and the curse of a bye, I suppose".
