The Ministry of Long-Term Care daily report states there are 170 outbreaks in long-term care homes, and there have been 2,719 cases confirmed in residents of long-term care facilities as well as 1,594 cases confirmed in staff.
The reported number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is 1,010 (an increase of 33) with 232 in intensive care (an increase of 11) and 174 on a ventilator (an increase of 20).
At this time, 380 cases have reportedly resulted in a recovery.
The union representing healthcare workers in Ontario is once again calling for better protection for frontline workers following the death of a third person support worker from COVID-19.
According to the Ministry of Long-Term Care, there have been 954 deaths reported among residents and patients in long-term care homes across Ontario, an increase of 44. Thirty deaths have been reported in Brampton and one death has been reported in Caledon.
More than 17,100 additional tests have been conducted - the highest number of tests completed in a 24-hour period- bringing the total number completed in the province to 327,505.
Ontario Public Health numbers typically lag behind the ministry of long-term care. The Ontario government has offered priority testing to health care workers for most of the pandemic.
About 36 per cent of the province's cases are related to community transmission, 20.7 per cent are close contact cases, and 6.9 per cent are travel related.
There have been eight individuals admitted to Health Sciences North with confirmed or presumptive cases of COVID-19 as of May 1 at 12 p.m. According to the data reported today, there were 16,305 tests processed on Thursday - to produce today's data - and there are 12,829 tests awaiting results.
The majority of these deaths occurred among residents of Ontario's long-term care homes.
There are now 2,540 health care workers who have tested positive for the virus, which is about 14.5 per cent of cases. Of those, nine people have died and one person has recovered.
Ontario Public Health (OPH) is reporting 434 new lab-confirmed cases of the coronavirus today, 615 recoveries, and 40 deaths. The provincial average is 115.2 cases per 100,000 population.
