266 new coronavirus cases reported in Ontario as deaths surpass 2,500

Those that are at increased risk of contracting COVID-19 - such as those over the age of 70 or those who work in higher-risk professions, such as health care - will be able to take part in these social circles. Around 26,200 cases are under investigation.

There are now 3,041 active COVID-19 cases province-wide, the fewest since new daily cases started to rise again in mid-May.

It's the lowest number of new infections since March 28 when 151 cases were reported.

Recoveries are still climbing faster than new cases, though, with 351 new recoveries noted in today's update. People over the age of 80 accounts for 1,740 of those deaths while people between the ages of 20 and 39 account for just 11 of the deaths.

Public Health Ontario has reported 1,610 deaths of residents in long-term care facilities.

Officials have said there may be a discrepancy between the reporting of overall deaths and deaths at long-term care homes due to how the province's health database system, called iPHIS, is tracking data and how the Ministry of Long-Term Care is tracking data.

The ministry also indicated there are now 539 active confirmed cases among long-term care residents and 503 among staff.

This bring's Ontario's total case count since the pandemic began to 31,992.

The virus has so far caused 2,507 deaths in the province, an increase of nine from Friday.

The province has now completed 980,471 COVID-19 tests, including 27,456 tests on Friday.
