Leroy Sane rejects Man City contract extension, opens door for Bayern

The deals of first-team players Jeff Hendrick, Phil Bardsley and Aaron Lennon all end on 30 June and the trio were left out of the squad for Monday's Premier League game at Manchester City.

Guardiola refused to be drawn on the club's finances and transfer plans when asked if money was available to secure the signing of a centre-back, City having struggled defensively following the departure of Vincent Kompany.

"If UEFA says we're going to play away for the health and security situation then we are going to follow their instructions".

On Friday, Guardiola confirmed Sane will not sign a contract extension at the Etihad Stadium, with Bayern Munich long touted as the Germany winger's next destination.

"City have talked to me, they've offered two or three times to extend his contract, he rejected so it means he wants to play somewhere else".

Guardiola added: "I'm so disappointed".

"Leroy has said he doesn't want to extend the contract". We love him, I love him so much.

"We want players who want to play with this club, players who commit to try to achieve targets but of course we respect him".

Leroy Sane could also be in line to make his first appearance of the campaign since picking up a cruciate ligament injury in the Community Shield last August.

"It's so important for us to have him".

Guardiola said he had wanted Sane to stay but the player wants to make a fresh start. I have nothing against him - but he wants another adventure. "When we retained the title we were the first for ten years so you know how hard it is to do that but at the same time it's next season and I'm not thinking too much about this", the Spaniard further added in the interview, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

As the English Premier League returned to action last week, every team had donned the words "Black Lives Matter" on the back of their jerseys in the place of player names.
