MI native Floyd Mayweather Jr. to pay for George Floyd's funeral

A representative of Floyd Mayweather Jr says the boxing star will "definitely pay" for the funeral of George Floyd, whose death in police custody triggered a wave of protests now sweeping the U.S., after talking to his family.

Mayweather Promotions confirmed that the previous five-division world champion had reached out to Mr Floyd's household with a proposal to cowl all prices relating to the funeral.

Floyd Mayweather has promised to George Floyd's family that he will cover the funeral costs.

Floyd died last week after a Minneapolis policeman knelt on the 46-year-old's neck for nearly nine minutes.

Before that, the family will hold a memorial service in Minneapolis on Thursday and a memorial service on Saturday in North Carolina, where Floyd was born. Mayweather has reportedly agreed to pay $88,500 to the Fort Bend Memorial Planning Center in Houston, TX, the city where Floyd was originally from. Officer Derek Chauvin was charged with murder in connection with the case, but three other policemen present at the time of the incident have not been charged.

Mayweather has committed to paying the bill for all of them.

Jordan released a statement on Sunday, May 31 that condemned "ingrained racism" in the United States, while Woods said on Monday he has always respected USA law enforcement but that their use of force on Floyd clearly crossed a line. "Mayweather has also offered to take care of those expenses as well", reports Hollywood Unlocked.

The death of Floyd has caused an eruption of protests across the world, with violence breaking out in parts of the United States between police officers and protestors.

In a press conference, Roxie Washington expressed her anguish that her 6-year-old daughter Gianna will grow up without her father. At a press conference in Minneapolis, where Floyd moved to several years ago and where he died on 25 May, Roxie Washington said in an emotional speech that she wants all four police officers to pay for his death.
