Reddit co-founder quits board and asks for black replacement — George Floyd

Ohanian, who is married to tennis star Serena Williams, cited his family as one of the reasons for his decision.

"I want to take responsibility for the history of our policies over the years that got us here, and we still have work to do", he said.

Ohanian also announced he is pledging $1 million to Colin Kaepernick's "Know your Rights Camp," which aims to educate, empower and mobilize black and brown communities.

These comments come after a former chief executive of Reddit slammed the company for fostering hate in the past.

In a series of tweets, he said he was doing it "as a father who needs to be able to answer his black daughter when she asks: 'What did you do?'" So much of what is happening now lies at your feet. "So proud of you Alexis", Serena wrote.

Mr Huffman said that Reddit would be refining its policy on hate so there was better "clarity" for moderators to remove racist content. Pao quoted a letter Huffman had written to employees stating that the platform does not tolerate hate, violence and racism.

Ohanian's resignation also comes less than a week after former Reddit CEO, Ellen Pao, called out the current CEO, Steve Huffman, for not shutting down a subreddit promoting US President Donald Trump through the platform.

In his posted response today, Huffman copped to Pao's criticism and admitted that The_Donald was "a community that relished in exploiting and detracting from the best of Reddit and that is now almost disintegrated". Ohanian is now the cofounder and managing partner of Initialized Capital, an early-stage venture capital firm in San Francisco with more than 200 companies in its portfolio.

"It is long overdue to do the right thing", Ohanian said.
