Beaches Closed, Firework Shows Banned for Independence Day

The state now has a grand total of 169,106 positive cases and 3,617 deaths from the coronavirus pandemic. The seven-day average of daily reported new cases of COVID-19 is almost 2,000, an increase from the 1,379 average two weeks ago.

Officials also warned that the county could run out of hospital beds over the next couple of weeks if the trend in COVID-19 cases continues.

Anyone with questions and concerns about the coronavirus can call the Florida Department of Health's 24-hour hotline at 1-866-779-6121. He also recommended that eight other counties in the most populous US state close their bars, as he urged Californians to "remain vigilant" against the virus.

Los Angeles remains the county with the most cases and hospitalizations in all of California. In addition, there are 1,710 people now hospitalized, higher than the 1,350 to 1,450 daily hospitalizations seen in recent weeks.

"Even though this is a holiday weekend and we know that you want to celebrate with those closest to you, gatherings with people not from your household are not permitted and put everyone at risk of COVID-19", the county's health department tweeted Tuesday.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has ordered bars and nightspots to close in seven counties including Los Angeles. In addition, 54% of bar employees inspected and 44% of restaurant workers wore no mask or visor as required by law. Testing results are available for more than 1,089,000 individuals, with 9 percent of people testing positive. According to the county, there were 23 confirmed virus cases at one of the facilities, 61 at another and 67 at the third.

Under the emergency order issued Monday, all public, municipal and private beaches will be closed from 12:01 a.m. Friday until 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

The order prohibits people from not only the beaches, but "piers, public beach parking lots, beach bike paths that traverse that sanded portion of the beach, and beach access points".
