Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan tests positive for coronavirus

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan tested positive for coronavirus, he revealed in a tweet on Saturday night.

"I have tested Covid positive [and been] shifted to hospital", Bachchan announced on Twitter to his 43.2 million followers. According to some reports, his wife Jaya Bachchan too is likely to be tested for COVID-19.

He, and Abhishek, 44, have been taken to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. It was Riteish Deshmukh who tweeted by Abhishek by writing, "Get well soon my brother - @juniorbachchan- praying for the family's well being and good health- love you man".

Earlier, his father Amitabh Bachchan was admitted to Mumbai's Nanavati hospital after testing positive for the virus.

His son has also tested positive for Covid-19.

The rest of the house staff and Big B's daughter Shweta Nanda have also tested negative but are in isolation.

He took to his social media handle to confirm that he has tested positive and his family have undergone tests.

Wishing him a speedy recovery as well.

Actors and other Bollywood colleagues have tweeted their wishes for his quick recovery. The film was initially going to be released in theaters, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it premiered on an OTT platform.

Bachchan, who has won multiple awards for his acting, more recently hosting "Kaun Banega Crorepati", India's version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" - one of the most watched shows on Indian television.

His upcoming films are "Chehre", "Jhund" and "Brahmastra".
