Dozens of Florida hospitals out of available ICU beds, state data shows

DeSantis noted a report from the state Department of Health, saying "they have so much raw data there", suggesting that the information could be gleaned from the report.

Hospital ICUs were full at 54 hospitals across 25 of Florida's 67 counties, according to data published on Tuesday morning by the state's Agency for Health Care Administration.

The ICUs at four hospitals in Florida's Tampa area were at maximum capacity over the last weekend. The hospital now has 26 out of 234, or 11.11 percent, of its ICU beds available.

The states most in trouble are those which reopened their economies relatively early.

Health officials also reported 16,758 hospital admissions statewide.

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis extended Florida's state of emergency for another 60 days, and with that, travel restrictions for those coming from the Tri-State area remain in effect as well.

All ICU beds are filled at the three hospitals in Clay County, where the population is around 220,000.

Before the steady increase in new coronavirus cases began in early June, the highest number of cases Florida had reported in a single day was 1,413 on April 17.

Almost 1,400 inmates at San Quentin State Prison north of San Francisco are infected.

According to the AHCA, Florida has a total of 47,488 hospital beds, of which 11,975 are available, a total of 6,222 adult ICU beds with 907 (14.58%) available, and a total of 596 pediatric ICU beds with 196 (32.89%) available. And while the USA has seen its third day where coronavirus cases have exceeded 50,000, White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci warned this week that new cases could top more than 100,000 a day.

"We saw a rapid rise in young people in getting - being positive to COVID-19 around mid-June". But Florida appears to be trying to Texas with news that is even more terrifying. The state government provides cumulative hospitalization numbers, but that data point does not show how many coronavirus patients are now being treated. The AHCA reports both overall hospital beds and ICU beds for each county and for each hospital across the state.
