Guman kills son of USA judge in attack at her home

Teresa was "devastated" by the news this weekend - namely, that a gunman disguised as a FedEx employee made his way into Judge Esther Salas' home and shot and killed her son.

Her husband, defence lawyer Mark Anderl, was injured in the attack, Wolfson said.

The suspect, who is still at large, entered the judge's home dressed as a FedEx delivery worker, according to the New Jersey Globe.

Authorities are investigating whether a gun found at the scene matches the one used to kill Judge Esther Salas' son and wound her husband, law enforcement sources say. Click the link to confirm your subscription and begin receiving our newsletters.

The judge, who was believed to have been in the basement when the gunman attacked, was assigned to try a lawsuit filed at a District Court in New Jersey on July 15 against Deutsche Bank on behalf of allegedly aggrieved investors.

The FBI is looking for someone in connection with the shooting.

Den Hollander, a lawyer based in NY, had a case pending before Salas regarding the U.S. Military's male-only draft registration system, court records show.

Womack, who told ABC that he is personal friends with Salas, said that she has "had threats from time to time, but everyone is saying that recently there had not been any". He also mentioned the judge in writings posted online, deriding her as a ladder climber who traded on her Hispanic heritage to get ahead.

Daniel Anderl was a student at Catholic University and was planning to attend law school, according to the Bridgewater Courier News.

Salas, seated in Newark, was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed in 2011.

The judge is now assigned to a class-action lawsuit filed by a group of Deutsche Bank investors who say the bank failed to properly monitor customers it had deemed to be high-risk - including convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself a year ago while in prison awaiting trial.

The shooting took place at Salas' home in North Brunswick.

In 2017, she barred federal prosecutors from seeking the death penalty against an alleged gang leader charged in several Newark slayings, ruling the man's intellectual disability made him ineligible for capital punishment. Salas later sentenced the man to 45 years in prison, the AP reported.
