Promoted Leeds clinch Championship title

The newspaper takes a look through the history, explaining that 'madness is part of the DNA' at Leeds and that's part of the reason Bielsa, whose appointment has been 'a stroke of genius', fits in perfectly.

Leeds still have two Championship games to go, but West Bromwich Albion losing 2-1 at Huddersfield Town yesterday was enough to hand them automatic promotion.

Thousands of fans celebrated on the streets outside their stadium on Friday, with Leeds' Italian owner Andrea Radrizzani also eager to remember those the club have lost in recent weeks. When I played that last game in 2004, 16 years ago, you never envisaged that Leeds United would be out of the top flight for so long, and even dropping to the third tier of English football.

After years of heartbreak, disappointments and near-finishes, The Whites can finally enjoy their moment in the sun as they are back among the big boys of English football and unsurprisingly the Leeds players celebrated like no other following their wonderful feat.

Marcelo Bielsa was appointed as a manager with a vision in mind and it paid dividend as the Whites are back in the Premier League.

Leeds have been promoted to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.

Ex-Leeds winger Aaron Lennon said on Twitter: "Finally!"

"Firstly, the player has benefitted immensely from Leeds and the masterful coaching of Marcelo Bielsa that has made an England call-up a strong possibility ahead of next year's European Championship".

Midfielder Kalvin Phillips saluted Bielsa's contribution, saying: "When the manager first came in I never thought I would be in this position two years down the line".

However, in the long-term, we need the Leeds Uniteds.

Liverpool midfielder James Milner, who started his career at Elland Road, tweeted: "Congratulations LUFC".

Describing the club's ascent to the heady heights of the Champions League in the early 2000s, former chairman Peter Ridsdale claimed he had "lived the dream".
