Warner Bros. to Rethink Release of 'Tenet' With Virus Raging

Warner Bros has said it is indefinitely delaying the release of Christopher Nolan's latest movie Tenet due to the coronavirus pandemic. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement.

"Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to proliferate, causing us to reevaluate our release dates", Warner Bros.

"Tenet" had already shifted from July 17, then July 31 and then August 12.

The Christopher Nolan film, starring John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, has been delayed again, The Hollywood Reporter says.

But New York city movie theaters, and those in Los Angeles - the two biggest markets in the United States - still do not have the green light from city authorities to reopen as coronavirus cases and deaths have spiked again.

The science-fiction thriller from "The Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan no longer has a release date in the USA, and the studio won't treat the film like a "traditional global day-and-date release", it said in a statement Monday.

While no new release date for the film has been announced, it seems likely that for the US, the next one will not be within the typical summer movie season, and Deadline reports a domestic rollout beginning on September 11 has been speculated.

The studio also announced that The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It which was The Conjuring 3 has been postponed to 4th June 2021. So with movie theaters overseas starting to open back up, whereas it doesn't look like a lot of domestic theaters will be doing that anytime soon, it's possible that Tenet could launch in worldwide territories first, and then hit North America at a later date. His next film, Insomnia, was also a modest hit. but it wasn't until Batman Begins hit theaters in 2005 that Nolan became a box office force in his own right. Variety also cites insiders as saying it could be released "in select USA cities" that have fewer COVID-19 cases.

The "Tenet" delay puts Walt Disney Co.'s "Mulan", which has been delayed twice because of COVID-19, in position to become the first big-budget film release of the summer.

The movie was set to kick-off the return of big, new movies to the cinema, but it has been officially pushed back by Warner Bros.
