Among the changes: It dropped the recommended 14-day quarantine for those returning to the USA from global destinations or from areas with a high concentration of coronavirus cases. "You and your travel companions (including children) pose a risk to your family, friends and community for 14 days after you were exposed to the virus".
The updated CDC guidelines can be seen on the CDC website.
The guidance says that all returning travelers should social distance, wear a cloth face covering, wash their hands often and watch for symptoms.
If can be noted, though, that these guidelines have been around since the beginning of the pandemic. Previously, the CDC recommended people isolate themselves for two weeks after returning from global destinations or domestic coronavirus hotspots.
According to the Africa CDC, 11 African countries have so far reported cases within the range of 10,001 to 50,000 positive COVID-19 cases.
Travel requirements may vary between locations.
"If you are traveling internationally, check the destination's Office of Foreign Affairs or Ministry of Health or the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs, Country Information page for details about entry requirements and restrictions for arriving travelers, such as mandatory testing or quarantine", the CDC added. "Staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19". Foreign nationals who have spent time in these countries in the last 14 days before travel can not enter the U.S.: China, Iran, United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, and most of Europe.
Cuomo has previously said he is concerned that people traveling from areas with more widespread cases of Covid-19 could cause it to spike in NY.
