9to5Google reports that the upcoming Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 will go up for pre-order on October 8th.
Historically, Google hasn't been very successful at keeping a lid on its Pixel phone plans - previous year it even leaked its Pixel 4 months in advance deliberately such is its inability to keep a lid on things.
Of course, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Google is indeed working on forthcoming Pixel models, but it is a surprise that these types of details have leaked out so early. According to the statements that the firm makes in Techcrunch where they affirm that after selling all the units of its inventory and that "people who are still interested in buying Pixel 4 or 4XL will be available in some authorized stores while supplies last".
Then in the next paragraph they say that both are "equipped with 5G" and that they will be available in "Germany, Australia, Canada, United States, France, Ireland, Japan, United Kingdom and Taiwan". This is what has also happened with the Pixel 4, the terminal that until now was the flagship of Google.
In the past, Google has eventually phased out its older smartphones after introducing new ones, but it's unusual for the company to do so this quickly. Last year, CNET reported that Google was experimenting with a prototype foldable device - a fact that was confirmed by Google's Mario Queiroz. As noted by The Verge, both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 series phones were discontinued roughly 18 months after their unveiling.
