Is Total War Troy on Steam? Release date for Valve’s store

In case you weren't aware, the British studio is now giving its new game - the just-released A Total War Saga: Troy - away for free on the platform for 24 hours, ending at 2pm this afternoon. This being a Total War game, the main focus is on the battles, and the big build up to Greece's siege of the city of Troy.

So far as we can see, there are no hidden strings attached to this. They've also had to entirely remove any mod support since the Epic Game Store doesn't have fully-fledged mod support yet, just a limited beta.

You need to click on the confirmation email to activate your account. Which all sounds fiddly to this console-leaning gamer, but will probably take all of two minutes to sort out.

In this legendary age, heroes walk the earth. If you aren't a fan of Epic Games, you can wait a year to pick up the game on Steam but getting it for free by following our instructions below seems like a significantly better option.

Fight to save or conquer the kingdom of Troy as one of eight iconic heroes, including the infamous warrior Achilles, noble protector Hector, wayward prince Paris and vengeful king Menelaus.

Troy launches 13th August (that's tomorrow, or right now!) and you have 24 hours to claim the game for free via the Epic Games store. You don't have to actually download and install the game immediately; simply "buy" it much as you would any of the Epic Games Store's other free titles.

However, in regard to Troy, they agreed to make it an Epic Games store exclusive in an effort to expand their audience and because Epic is paying for the free launch day.
