James Murdoch resigns from news publisher News Corp's board

News Corp. said Friday that James Murdoch, the son of founder Rupert Murdoch, is exiting the board of directors due to unspecified differences over editors content, the latest in periodic bouts of family drama around the media dynasty.

James Murdoch, the younger son of the Fox and News Corp mogul, was CEO of Fox until it most of it was sold to Walt Disney Co past year.

James, who has publicly said there are "views I really disagree with on Fox", abandoned the company previous year.

James Murdoch, 47, has recently been critical of his father's business and its media coverage. The resignation was effective Friday.

It also owns The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times in the UK.

His breaking off his ties with the family's other company is a big moment for the Murdoch family and the people who watch it closely.

"We're grateful to James for his many years of service to the company".

Lachlan is also executive chairman and CEO of Fox Corp, home to conservative news network Fox News, the Fox broadcast and sports networks and local TV stations. "We wish him the very best in his future endeavours".

Fox News is now housed under the Fox Corporation, a separate business entity from News Corp.

Rupert Mudoch's younger son headed 21st Century Fox until past year when he left after Disney acquired most of the group's assets.
