List of premises associated with Aberdeen coronavirus cluster published

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said pubs, cafes, restaurants, and all other indoor and outdoor venues must close by 5 p.m. today, and that people should not travel into the city, and those within the city should not go to each other's homes.

A cluster of more than 50 cases originally centred around the Hawthron Bar in Aberdeen has now been identified.

She said an outbreak in the city had now accounted for a total of 54 known cases in recent days, and that in the last 24 hours there had been 64 new cases across the whole of Scotland.

Residents can not travel more than five miles from their homes if they are in the affected area.

Schools in Scotland are due to reopen next week at the start of the new school year, and Ms Sturgeon said it was important to act locally now to ensure the outbreak is contained and ensure schools can reopen as planned.

The new rules will be backed by governmental regulations, the First Minister said, and will be enforced if they are not followed.

"Our precautionary and careful judgment is that we need to take decisive action now, hard as that undoubtedly is, in order to try to contain this outbreak and prevent further harm later on".

From 5pm tonight, all clubhouses operated by golf clubs that lie within the Aberdeen City local authority framework are to be closed, with the five-mile maximum travel guidance also being reintroduced.

Since the pandemic began, Scotland has seen 18,717 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 4,817 deaths. "I'm very sorry we are in this position", said Sturgeon in a statement.

She added that the decision to place the city in lockdown had not been taken lightly.
