Tropical Storm Kyle forms in the northwest Atlantic Ocean

The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said the centre of Tropical Storm Josephine was located over the Atlantic Ocean about 575 miles (920 km) east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands at 11 am AST.

The second system is another tropical wave located just west of the coast of Africa that is producing a large area of cloudiness and showers. It has a better chance of development later this week when it reaches the central Atlantic. Rough seas and waves of enhanced, tropical downpours are likely to sweep across the island through Thursday.

Josephine was downgraded to a tropical depression today but is still ranked as a potential threat to Bermuda.

Josephine had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph), forecasters said, and was tracking west-northwest at 17 mph (28 kph), while Kyle was churning east-northeast at 22 mph (35 kph).

Maximum sustained winds are near 65 km/h with higher gusts, and weakening is expected, such that Josephine may lose tropical status by late Sunday or early Monday. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 miles per hour with higher gusts.

Then there's what was Tropical Storm Kyle, which has transitioned to a post-tropical storm. Kyle was never going to have an impact on the USA and it will continue moving away before being absorbed by the upper level flow over the coming days.

The hurricane center issued its last advisory on Kyle early this morning, when it was 545 miles southwest of Cape Race, Newfoundland.

Closer to land, tropical moisture, although not from a defined tropical system, is expected to bring downpours late this week.

NOAA forecasters think there could be 19-25 named storms before the season ends of November 30.

This storm comes on the heels of NOAA's updated forecasts for the season.
