Two-day heat warning issued for Montreal and surrounding areas

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Ottawa, Kanata, Orleans, Richmond and Metcalfe for most of the week ahead.

The heat has returned to Hamilton, following a temperate first week of August.

Humidex values will reach and could even "slightly exceed" 40 between Monday and Tuesday.

The warning notes that a "warm and humid air mass will settle over southern Quebec today and on Tuesday".

It's expected to cover today and tomorrow and include a Monday night that shouldn't dip below 20 C, with humidity stacked atop of that.

According to the weather agency risks are the highest for young children, pregnant women, older adults, those with chronic illnesses, and those working or exercising outdoors.

Environment Canada is reminding everyone to stay hydrated by drinking water before feeling thirsty, and to stay in a cool place, if at all possible. "Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle". The heat event may persist into Tuesday.
