A Brief Introduction to Amy Coney Barrett

Amy Coney Barrett appears to be President Trump's top pick for the nomination. In an interview earlier this week, ABC News White House correspondent Jon Karl told Mediaite Editor in Chief Aidan McLaughlin that the pick had been "all but determined" to be Barrett.

Coney Barrett is a former clerk to the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

. The question is, is Barrett truly the best choice for the Supreme Court? "In 1791 - and for well more than a century afterward - legislatures disqualified categories of people from the right to bear arms only when they judged that doing so was necessary to protect the public safety". "She understands she is there to interpret the law based on what the words say, rather than on the basis of what some social scientist or lawyer might wish that it said". In one case, she criticized her court for treating the Second Amendment as a "second class right".

She's been praised by the President of the Susan B. Anthony List, Marjorie Dannenfelser, who leads the anti-abortion group: "She is the flawless combination of brilliant jurist and a woman who brings the argument to the court that is potentially the contrary to the views of the sitting women justices". To have Barrett confirmed by the Senate has the potential to undermine neoteric laws & decisions created to uplift & protect US citizens now and into the future. A source also said Trump allies were already being told.

I was accurately quoted in Politico today saying the Catholic League staff has been scanning internet sites looking for instances of anti-Catholic bigotry, but so far "red flags" have been scarce. "It's a question of whether abortions will be publicly or privately funded".

Cox said she knows Barrett's writings show the judge is an "originalist" who believes in strictly adhering to the intent of the American founders who wrote the Constitution. "As a result, there have been divisive confirmation battles of a sort not seen before".

Barrett is a mother of seven from IN and a graduate of Notre Dame Law School, where she worked as a law professor until Trump nominated her to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals IN 2017.

While she was going through the vetting process, concerns were raised that Coney Barrett's judgment on certain cases could be swayed towards decisions that aligned with her religious preferences.

Many commentators, not all of whom are sympathetic to Barrett, have warned against playing the anti-Catholic card. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) caused controversy by questioning her Catholic faith, saying, "the dogma lives loudly within you". "I would never impose my own personal convictions upon the law".

In the end, she was confirmed in a 55-43 vote by the Senate later that year.

Yelderman's bottom-line assessment is clear: "She's mind-blowingly intelligent, and she's also one of the most humble people you're going to meet".

According to The Hill, Barrett met with President Trump Monday at the White House.

"I don't think she was one to let her own political ideology or Catholicism tint or change the way she approached the law", Cox said.

"Before I can get to my office, four people come up to me, one after another, and they're like, 'You're the only person who hasn't signed her letter, '" Yelderman said. "She is certainly one of the candidates, yes".

This isn't her first time being considered, though.

When Barrett was on the shortlist to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, opponents pointed to her scholarly articles and Catholic faith as suggesting she is a religious extremist, morally opposed to Roe vs. Wade. Still, the President ultimately went on to nominate Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

"Religious differences abound in America", Graham said, "but I am very much aware of the fact that if it's somebody of faith and they attack the person for being faithful", he is prepared for a "fight".
