Chelsea complete signing of Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen

He is set to become the latest big-name signing for a club that has already signed Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Malang Sarr among others this off-season.

"I am very happy and proud to be here", Havertz told Chelsea's official website.

Havertz has not yet had a medical with Chelsea and he remains with the Germany squad for their UEFA Nations League fixtures with Spain and Switzerland.

Oliver Bierhoff, director of the German national team, confirmed that Havertz left the global camp with his full blessing by saying:: "The future belongs to Kai - in the club and in the national team".

The highly-rated 21-year-old becomes the sixth new acquisition of the summer, with the Blues making up for last year's transfer ban by being the most active club in the market. "It is a dream come true to play in a big club like Chelsea", said Havertz.

Last season Havertz scored 18 goals in 45 appearances for Leverkusen, including seven in nine games after the Bundesliga season restarted.

"We are aware of the importance of this for Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Kai and want to approach this responsibly", Germany national team general manager Oliver Bierhoff said.

The German global should be a superb addition to Lampard's squad as he's developed into one of the most exciting players in world football since progressing through Leverkusen's youth ranks into the first team.

However, despite committing his future to Lampard's side, Marca claim that the youngster's preferred destination was actually Madrid, the La Liga side forced to back away from any deal due to the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What do you think of Kai Havertz joining Chelsea?

In conversation with Kai Havertz's former coach, Adam Bate traces the player's journey from his breakthrough season to the superstar of today, identifying the qualities that make him so special.

However, according to the story, Lampard is keen to further bolster his squad this summer and the Blues will look to bring in a new goalkeeper before the transfer window closes at the start of October.
