Chelsea's Rudiger free to leave amid Spurs interest

Chelsea's Rudiger free to leave amid Spurs interest

"I am very open with Ruben". He's fit as a fiddle so he can play week-in, week-out and he needs to play coming off the back of a lot of work now.

On the general likelihood of exits, Lampard said: "If it's right for a player and right for us, then that can be possible". I was really looking forward to working with him because I know what he can do, and he gives us something slightly different in terms of his physicality, how he plays, how he receives the ball. "That's all I want to say about him now".

He has consequently sought assurances over his role in the team and while Lampard is not actively forcing him out of the club, Chelsea have a bloated squad and need to recoup some of the £220 million outlay on seven summer signings.

Paris Saint-Germain have expressed an interest in taking Rudiger on loan but Chelsea want a straight sale given he has two years left on his existing contract and they value the Germany global at around £20m. He's had a hard time, the injury was a bad one, he hasn't played as many minutes at this club as he would like to have done, for different reasons, but just before this injury he was playing really well, contributing, and I was looking forward to working with him.

"I have to protect him because I know he is a good lad and playing with absolute professionalism and intent to do the best he can, as all the squad have done".

Defender Antonio Rudiger could also leave after also being omitted from Lampard's squad while Jorginho, Ross Barkley and Fikayo Tomori are among the players with admirers.

"I certainly won't go to the point of [saying] he's played his last game for Chelsea", said Lampard.

Alonso, who Lampard blamed for two of the goals, initially tried to watch the second half on the team bus rather than from the stands with the other substitutes.
