Chinese troops, once again, tried to intrude into Indian territory on September 8, amid border tensions between Indian and Chinese troops at Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.

This comes even as news agency reports from Beijing cited the Chinese Foreign Ministry as saying there would be a Russia-India-China (RIC) trilateral foreign ministers' luncheon meeting in the Russian Capital on Thursday which is being seen by observers as an effort by a anxious Russia to encourage and persuade both Asian neighbours to reach a compromise and avoid a devastating war in the Ladakh sector. Earlier, on the eve of the crucial meeting, commanders of the armies of India and China met in eastern Ladakh and also exchanged messages over the hotline on ways to check further escalation in border tension.

During the visits, Wang will meet the leaders and hold talks with his counterparts of the three countries to further deepen the traditional friendship and cooperation against the COVID-19, and promote the high-quality joint building of the Belt and Road.

Satellite images have allegedly captured China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) occupying and creating new posts on the South Bank of Pangong Lake, where India and China are engaged in a unsafe stand-off, NDTV has revealed.

Upon noticing the movement of Chinese soldiers, Indian troops stationed at surveillance post in Finger 3, immediately raised the alarm.

On Tuesday, around 40 to 50 Chinese troops, armed with spears and other sharp-edged weapons, besides guns, had reached a few metres from the Indian Army position at heights north of Rezang La, and seemed to be poised for a fresh attempt to dislodge the Indian soldiers from their position. To a separate question on fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi's ongoing extradition hearing related to the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam case at a United Kingdom court, Srivastava said the hearing started on September 7 and will continue till September 11.

India has occupied several dominating heights close to China's existing positions at finger 4, north bank of Pangong Lake.

Indian troops have been restricted from patrolling beyond Finger 4 since April, after China amassed troops. A crucial height Rechin La, which is now being manned by Indian troops is which China is protesting against.

One of the most critical heights the Indian Army is manning is the Rechin La, which the Chinese are protesting against. New Delhi also made it clear that Beijing "should not take any provocative action or escalate matters", which comes after the latest round of Chinese military provocations at Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh both on the night of August 29 and on August 31. Jaishankar is here on a four-day visit to Russian Federation to attend a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
