First case of re-infection of the new coronavirus in the USA

But according to the brand-new case research study, the 25- year- old Nevada client established more extreme signs the 2nd time he was contaminated.

During his first bout with the illness, he had a sore throat, cough, headache, nausea and diarrhea, researchers wrote in a preprint study published Thursday.

When he was tested for COVID-19, it came back positive, despite the fact that samples from the patient showed that they possessed antibodies against the virus. After testing positive on April 18, he began to gradually feel better, and the virus appeared to leave his system, seemingly verified with two consecutive negative tests in May.

But on May 31, the man sought care for headache, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, cough, and fever, as per MSN.

The man again tested positive in June, but this time he was even sicker and had to be hospitalised.

Researchers from the University of Nevada-Reno School of Medicine and the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory detailed the two coronavirus infections of the unnamed individual, a Reno, Nevada native, in a case report which has not yet been peer-reviewed and is now only available as a pre-print, according to Newsweek.

'We know that from many studies, patients (who) have the immunity, actually it is not as good ... a few months after the first infection, especially for the decreasing antibody levels, so that is one possibility, ' Dr To said.

The researchers analyzed the genomes of the coronaviruses from both times he was infected and found that the viruses had differences in some of their genes, caused by natural mutations.

Researchers at the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory (NSPHL) analyzed the case of the patient who contracted the disease in April, developing the mild form of covid-19. "Having had it doesn't mean you can't get it again, that's what this shows", Dr. Mark Pandori, director of the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory and co-author of the study, said in an interview with ABC's "World News Tonight".

"It is important to note, that this is a singular finding".

Similar reports of reinfection has also emerged from HongKong and Europe earlier this week.

Pandori said there might be implications for the vaccines' efficacy developed to fight the COVID-19 if reinfection is possible for a short time.

"It does not provide any information to us with regard to the generalizability of this phenomenon".
