Google Introduces Series One Meeting Room Kits for Meet

The company is selling videoconferencing equipment bundles, titled Series One room kits, that revolve around the Google Meet conferencing service and what group meetings may look like in the near future. Asus revealed new Google Meet gear for conference rooms in May, for example. "Series One is designed for this and comes with the best of Google AI built in-people can join meetings touch free with their voice, enjoy studio-grade audio through enhanced noise cancellation, and benefit from smart capabilities like automatic participant framing", said Google in a blog post announcing the launch.

Series one features TrueVoice®, their multi-channel noise cancellation and voice amplification technology that minimizes distractions to ensure every voice is heard. Google promises that distracting sounds, like typing, shuffling, and snacking, "are filtered out completely, but voices are crystal clear".

For the money, you'll get a Smart Camera, Smart Audio Bar, Compute System, and remote control ($2,699).

There's also a Smart Audio Bar, which has a 2.5-inch woofer, a one-inch tweeter, and eight beam-forming microphones that Google claims can process "up to 44 channels simultaneously".

Each kit includes a regular or extra large 4K smart camera, allowing for automatic participant framing without loss of quality. It uses a 20.3MP sensor with 4.3x optical zoom and provides digital panning, tilt and zoom movements due to this higher resolution. Everything is securely managed through the Google Admin console, including setup, status checks and minor issue resolution without having to visit the room. He also said that each group can "anonymously sense the number of meeting participants to help monitor room use and maintain safety protocols". It also comes with a mic pod that's missing in the small room kit. One-touch audio calibration for room acoustics can automatically optimize system audio settings for different room sizes and surfaces. But like its predecessors, it's built on top of Chrome OS, which means automatic over-the-air updates and hardware that is always running the latest firmware. Every component, down to the cables, is rigorously tested for durability in high-use environments. Indeed, the kits come with three years of Lenovo Premier Support and five years EOL support.

Prices start at $2,699 for the small room kit, $2,999 for the medium, and $3,999 for the large.

So how is this hardware different to all the other meeting hardware available?

The kits have been created to blend into any room and are available in Charcoal and Chalk and feature Google's easily recognisable fabric and industrial design. In fact, all Series One products feature the same rounded corners and texture as other Google devices.
