The man, identified as a deckhand, was reached by a patrol boat and was alone in the raft, the coast guard said.

Two Australians remain missing after the ship disappeared on Wednesday.

What do we know about the survivors?

A third crewman from the Gulf Livestock 1 that capsized in a storm off Japan with a crew of 43, including two Australians and two New Zealanders, and a cargo of almost 6,000 cattle, was found alive on Friday.

The carcass of a livestock floats at the area where Gulf Livestock 1, a cargo ship carrying livestock and dozens of crew members that went missing after issuing a distress signal, in this handout photo taken on September 3, 2020 and provided by Japan Coast Guard.

The ship had sent a distress call amid strong winds and heavy seas whipped up by Typhoon Mask.

Japan's coastguard said it rescued chief officer Sareno Edvarodo on Wednesday night.

He said one of the boat's engines had stalled and a wave then overturned the ship, which later sank, the coast guard said in a statement.

He said when the ship capsized, he was told to put on a life jacket. It said it remains hopeful that other Filipino crew members will soon be found.

On Friday afternoon, the Coast Guard rescued another Filipino sailor.

"He is conscious and able to walk", the DFA said.

A New Zealand animal rights group said the Gulf Livestock 1 incident illustrates why the export of live animals should not be permitted. The ship had 43 crew.

China has imported more than 46,000 head of cattle from New Zealand so far this year, according to data from China's customs, mostly to stock the country's expanding dairy farms.

Flooding water made conditions slippery underfoot as the crew, of 39 from the Philippines, two from New Zealand and two from Australia, fought in vain to save the doomed ship.

Maritime Safety Queensland said the livestock carrier docked in Townsville on May 23, and Gladstone on August 6.

The 139-metre (450-foot), Panamanian-flagged vessel was built in 2002.

Gulf Navigation, Marconsult Schiffarht and Hijazi & Ghosheh Co. did not immediately respond to questions about the reports.

What is the latest in the search for survivors?

The company is working with those involved in rescue efforts and regrets the loss of livestock, he added.

Japan is now in its annual typhoon season, and a second enormous storm is on course to arrive in the same area around Sunday, according to local forecasters, which could limit the search.

Mr Orda, 25, is originally from Mt Isa but lived on the Gold Coast.

The ship was formerly known as the Rahmeh, a sister ship to the Jawan which experienced stability issues after loading cattle at Portland in December 2018, requiring stability rectification works in Singapore.

The vet's last post was on June 24, writing, "And the first 20 day stretch of my trip starts".
