Multiple people injured in series of stabbings in England

A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in Birmingham on suspicion of murder and seven counts of attempted murder following a spate of stabbings in the city centre.

West Midlands Police said three hours after making the footage public: "We've had a strong response following our appeal to trace the #BirminghamStabbings suspect".

AM we were called to Irving Street where sadly one man lost his life and another man suffered serious injuries.

The incident comes after several previous mass casualty stabbings, including one in the Scottish city of Glasgow on June 26, in which six people were injured, including a police officer.

Mr Jamieson, who has been West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner since 2014, said the stabbings were "truly bad and have shocked the people of Birmingham, the West Midlands and the country".

Five other people were also injured during the attack, according to the police.

He said another man, covered in blood, was lying in the road nearby, shouting that he had been stabbed.

The first incident was at Constitution Hill where the first stabbing happened at 12:30am.

The force said it believed the attack was "random". The victims appear to have been chosen at random, with no indication that it was gang or terror-related, Chief Superintendent Steve Graham was reported saying.

Home secretary Priti Patel commented: "Our emergency services are working hard to find whoever is responsible and bring them to justice". Police in Birmingham in central England said they were seeking a single suspect in relation to the series of stabbings. They were treated in hospital and so far two have been discharged. 56 tested positive after an outbreak at an asylum centre in the city.

"Our thoughts go out to those affected by the tragic incident in Birmingham over the weekend", a CGF spokesperson said.

Police have since declared a "major incident" and cordoned off an area in the centre of the city which is full of bars and nightclubs. That was soon followed by reports of other stabbings across the city center.

A knife was visible to a Reuters witness beside a drain in Edmund Street, near to the second location.
