Nightclubs, banquet halls must close again during COVID-19

People aged 20-29 make up the bulk of new cases among the age groups from zero to 100. Despite hard work and extensive contact tracing, Henry said venues like nightclubs are still the source of major outbreaks.

All nightclubs and banquet halls are ordered to shut down, "until further notice".

Liquor sales in all restaurants and pubs must cease at 10 p.m., and those venues must close by 11 p.m.

"And that means music or other background sounds, such as from televisions in bars, lounges and pubs and restaurants, must be no louder than the volume of normal conversation", she said.

The order amendments come as there has been an uptick in possible exposure events, especially in Vancouver, in venues like nightclubs, bars, and at private parties.

Riskier situations include crowds, enclosed spaces and face-to-face contact.

Henry said changes had to be made to combat the rising cases.

The plan will inject $1.6 billion into health-care system and involve the strategic hiring and training of 7,000 health-care workers.

Henry said the province must focus on getting students back to school and people back to work.

"We've expanded (our social circles) quite a bit through the summer, as a whole", said Henry.

"We adjusted the orders to try and make it a safer environment for people but it in turn makes it more challenging to protect those who are more vulnerable to serious illness".

The BCCDC posts COVID-19 case counts per local health area. From Friday to Saturday there were 123 new cases, from Saturday to Sunday an additional 116, from Sunday to Monday 107, and from Monday to midday today an additional 83.

Henry says there have been 429 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. since Friday. September 6 to 7 we had 107 new cases and in the last 24 hours, we have had a further 83 new cases. There have been 213 total deaths in BC since the start of the pandemic. There are 3,063 cases being monitored by health authorities after being exposed to the virus.

In Northern Health the region has seen another 12 infections, marking a new total of 186.

There have been three new healthcare outbreaks in the lower mainland, including a second one at the Holy Family Hospital after the original outbreak was declared over several weeks ago. In total, 11 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and three acute-care facilities have active outbreaks.
