Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G SoC Announced to Debut With a Poco Phone

Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G SoC Announced to Debut With a Poco Phone

It will be an upgradation from the already available Snapdragon Qualcomm 730G and would offer better performance with the faster AI and better GPU and CPU.

According to PCWorld, the Snapdragon 732G increases the clock speed of the Kyro 470CPU from 2.2GHz to 2.3GHz. The moniker "G" in the naming is self-explanatory that the Snapdragon 732G - like the Snapdragon 730G - is also a gaming focused mobile processor though it would be interesting to see how all its new upgrades impact all-round performance.

In terms of AI, the engine used is the fourth generation of the Qualcomm AI Engine, which even helps with energy efficiency so you don't have to use a charger at all times. "We believe the device will set a new benchmark in the mid-range category, completely redefining the relationship between a phone's price and its capabilities", said Sam Jiang, Products Head, POCO Global.

The chipset features Qualcomm's 4th Generation AI Engine, which is twice as powerful as previous generations.

"Since inception, POCO has been all about listening to user feedback and delivering exactly what they need", said Manmohan Chandolu, General Manager, POCO India. It might only be an incremental improvement (as its model number implies), but an as-yet-unnamed POCO phone will be "globally" powered by the upcoming chip.

When it comes to smartphone gaming, high-performance GPUs are still exclusive to flagship-grade parts, and I doubt that the clock bumps on this incrementally improved version of the 730G will change that. It can compress photos with the HEIF format.

The Soc supports QHD+ on-device display and UHD External Display Support.

Apart from Adreno 618GPU, it comes with support for true HDR10 gaming, Vulkan 1.1 API support, 4K HDR10 PQ and HLG Video Playback (10-bit colour depth, Rec. 2020 colour gamut), H.264 (AVC), H.265 (HEVC) VP8 and VP9 playback, and physically based rendering.
