The third-round match is the drawcard event on day six at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in NY.

In danger of her earliest exit at the U.S. Open since her debut 22 years ago, Serena Williams turned things around and took over against Sloane Stephens. Her defense made the court look small, and Williams suffered from sluggish footwork as she missed by inches lines that she usually clips.

Williams collected 10 of the past 12 games by lifting her level, to be sure.

At this stage in her life, Williams is discovering the key to success lies in finding room to allow for the occasional botched letter. She was playing so clean.

"It's so, so insane because my daughter does the exact same thing", Williams said.

Olympia, on the other hand, wore a mask with a floral unicorn design, her hair tied up in pink and yellow bobbles to match her mother's red hair ties. At the US Open, she has been solid yet largely unspectacular.

And third seed Daniil Medvedev appears against American wildcard J.J. Wolf in a last-32 match. So I wouldn't want it any other way.
