Trump threatens to cease federal funding for "lawless cities" in US

Trump threatens to cease federal funding for

New York leaders are pushing back against a signed memo from President Trump that threatens to cut federal funding to what he calls "lawless" cities, including Seattle, Portland, New York and Washington.

Cuomo said Trump's order was "illegal" and "another attempt to kill New York City".

But no one on Wednesday had harsher words for Trump than Cuomo, who said the president had been "dismissed as a clown" by NY and was now trying to act like a king.

In 2019, Trump changed his official residence from NY City to Florida.

"My Administration won't permit Federal tax to fund cities that permit themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones", Trump mentioned within the memo obtained by The Publish. The memo gives the budget director 30 days to redirect these funds, which as CBS2 reports, would cost New York City $7 billion.

The New York State Restaurant Association said Thursday that nearly two-thirds of restaurants in New York were likely to close by the end of the year without more support from the state and local governments, including an authorization of indoor dining in New York City.

Legal experts predicted that courts would quickly reject Trump's tactics. It's political, it is gratuitous.

Trump's Democratic presidential opponent even faced accusations of white privilege when Charlamagne Tha God, the influential black talk radio show host, hurled racial claims against the candidate in July.

"The president has been an abysmal failure in the war against COVID", said the governor, later adding, "If this was an actual war, [Trump] could be court martialed for dereliction of duty".

Commercial-sector casinos in NY state in the United States, including one controlled by Malaysia's Genting group, can reopen on September 9, according to an announcement by the state's governor Andrew Cuomo.

Durkan said there's one thing that will stop Trump in his threat: the law.

Police unions, and members of law enforcement, have blamed the spike on recent changes to the state's criminal justice laws, which largely eliminated the option of cash bail for low-level charges. New York City, Washington, and Portland all saw weeks of civil unrest following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. "If we open restaurants, that's going to complicate by the hundreds if not thousands the number of establishments that have to be monitored". "This is a campaign document coming out of the White House", Berger said.
