Ex-49er Dana Stubblefield sentenced to 15 years to life

Ex-49er Dana Stubblefield sentenced to 15 years to life

On Thursday, the Santa Clara County District Attorney announced that former 49er defensive star Dana Stubblefield, had been sentenced to 15 years to life for rape.

When she went back to the house, Stubblefield allegedly raped the woman, gave her $80, and let her go.

The jury found Stubblefield guilty of rape by force using a firearm, oral copulation by force, and false imprisonment following a nine-month trial. Stubblefield was immediately taken into custody. "Today, he was properly held accountable".

Allen Sawyer, one of Stubblefield's trial attorneys, said the defense team was precluded from showing the jury strong evidence that would have supported the contention.

San Francisco made Stubblefield a first-round draft pick (26th overall) out of Kansas in 1993.

Stubblefield played in the National Football League for the 49ers (1993-97, 2001-02), the then-Washington Redskins (1998-2000) and the then-Oakland Raiders (2003). A report by the Morgan Hill Police Department stated that the interview lasted 20 minutes, and Stubblefield contacted the woman afterward to say he wanted to pay her for her time that day. "That false narrative corrupted this trial from start to finish". DNA evidence matched that of Stubblefield, the report said.

McInerny argued throughout the case that Doe was overpowered and overwhelmed by the much larger Stubblefield, who used his physical stature and celebrity to commit the assault, adding Thursday that the victim "testified with bravery, poise, and grace and allowed the jury to get a true picture of the man".
