Ghislaine Maxwell's Testimony in Case Involving Jeffrey Epstein to be Unsealed

epa08546198 The Metropolitan Detention Center where Ghislaine Maxwell is being held awaiting the outcome of her bail hearing, in Brooklyn, New York, USA, 14 July 2020. "We deny the motion to consolidate this appeal with the pending appeal in United States v. Maxwell".

The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan issued its conclusions in a series of orders it released regarding 2016 depositions by Ghislaine Maxwell.

U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska in Manhattan directed that a transcript of Maxwell's testimony and other documents be released by 9 a.m. EDT (1300 GMT) on Thursday.

Refusing to overturn the lower court's decision, the appeal court dismissed as "meritless" Maxwell's argument that her interests should supersede the principle of public access to the documents.

"C$3 ounsel for Ms. Maxwell requests that the Court refuse to "confirm" [Giuffre's] proposed course of action and instead, consistent with today's [earlier court order], direct the parties confer as they have been on proposed redactions to Ms. Maxwell's deposition prior to its release", the motion concludes.

Maxwell, 58, has pleaded not guilty to helping Epstein recruit and groom underage girls for sex in the mid-1990s, and not guilty to perjury for denying her involvement under oath.

David Boies, the attorney representing Giuffre, told the Miami Herald, "It is an important step towards vindicating the public interest in understanding the scope and scale of Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring and the efforts made to hide it".

Now the court has ruled that seven hours of depositions and 2,000 pages of documents can be released ahead of Maxwell's trial next July.

Giuffre said she was a teenager when Maxwell pulled her into Epstein's circle, where she was groomed and trafficked for sex with Epstein and other wealthy, powerful men.

The arrest came a year after 66-year-old Epstein was arrested and charged with sex trafficking.

NEW YORK (AP) - Transcripts of interviews lawyers conducted with the ex-girlfriend of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein can be immediately released, a judge said Tuesday. Epstein infamously got off with a slap on the wrist courtesy of federal authorities in Florida; Maxwell is now facing a trial in NY on various crimes related to the alleged global sex trafficking conspiracy.
