India's coronavirus cases surpass 7 million mark

According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are now 8,61,853 active cases across the country, while 61,49,535 patients have been discharged, and one had earlier migrated.

Total number of samples tested up to October 12 is 8,89,45,107 including 10,73,014 samples tested on Monday alone as per the Indian Council of Medical Research report. The cases rose from 50 lakh to 60 lakh in 12 days.

India's Covid-19 tally of cases raced past 70 lakh, 13 days after it had crossed the 60-lakh mark, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 60 lakh, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

Cortland County had 27 new cases for a total of 464 while DE noted three more cases for a total of 135 with the death toll remaining at eight.

Tamil Nadu has 43,747 active cases, with 6,07,203 recoveries, alongside 10,314 fatalities. Both have contributed more than 11,000 to the new cases.

Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (66.32%), Chhattisgarh (79.91%), Karnataka (81.66%), Maharashtra (82.86%), and Puducherry (83.33%). Of these, 9,94,851 samples were tested on Sunday.

India's 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 1.1%. Another six people in the state have died from COVID-19 for a total of 3,568.

The 816 fatalities include 309 from Maharashtra, 75 from Karnataka, 65 from Tamil Nadu, 59 from West Bengal, 41 from Uttar Pradesh, 35 from Punjab, 30 from Andhra Pradesh and 29 from Delhi.

In all districts, 18 states and territories now have more than 100,000 confirmed cases.

About half of India's total confirmed cases have been in the western state of Maharashtra, the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh and two other states in the south.
