The last time they won was back in 1988.

Corey Seager, who batted.400 with two home runs and 5 RBIs for the series, was named World Series MVP, one round after earning NLCS MVP honors. It was the first time since 1944 that the World Series was held at a single site.

As the Dodgers celebrated on the field, key contributor Justin Turner appeared, despite having been pulled in the eighth inning after testing positive for coronavirus - a final sombre reminder of the shadow cast on the season by the pandemic.

Mookie Betts hit a solo homer Tuesday night to provide a valuable insurance run for Los Angeles, giving it a 3-1 lead against Tampa Bay heading into the ninth inning that stood for the title.

"I do think because of the attention that we attract and the popularity of the game, " Manfred said, "our experience can be used as a model or an example of how it's possible to operate".

Turner said he felt great and had "no symptoms at all". "I don't want to speculate about that".

Sure enough, when Snell departed, the momentum shifted.

Snell had only allowed two hits and had struck out nine Dodgers before Cash made a decision to put in Nick Anderson, who allowed Mookie Betts' double - starting a sequence that led to two quick runs. An Anderson wild pitch brought Barnes home, as Betts moved to third.

"Snell was pitching a great game", Betts said.

"And after the fact, figure out if we can how this might have happened, so if we're confronted with the need to do this again, we'll be better at it".

A parade of Dodgers pitchers - it would total seven in all - kept it close after rookie sensation Arozarena clubbed his record-extending 10th home run of the post-season off an 88 miles per hour slider from Tony Gonsolin, the rookie righthander whose impressive regular season numbers haven't translated in the playoffs.

Once on the field, Turner hugged longtime teammate Clayton Kershaw and pulled his mask down to sit front and centre for a team photo, potentially putting his team at risk of catching the coronavirus. But Dylan Floro bailed him out of the inning and Alex Wood came on to pitch 2 flawless innings behind him.

Buehler was the victor in Game 3 on Friday night, when he struck out 10 while allowing one run and three hits over six innings.

The Dodgers had played 5,014 regular season games and were in their 114th postseason game since Orel Hershiser struck out Oakland's Tony Phillips for the final out of the World Series in 1988, the same year veteran lefty Clayton Kershaw - the three-time NL Cy Young Award victor who won Games 1 and 5 of this Series - was born in nearby Dallas.

Seager said Turner, more than anyone on the team, deserved to enjoy the moment. I just believe in me.

To me - and call me old and out of touch and cranky or whatever - this all takes away from the human element of the game, every game, that makes them so often compelling.

Sports are human. And now they all too often feel dehumanized, which really sucks.

Betts was a newcomer this year, traded prior to the season from the Boston Red Sox team that broke Dodgers' hearts in 2018. "There's already guaranteed, at worse, a Game 7", Roberts said. "He's that sort of player".

It was the longest of waits for the LA Dodgers and their long-suffering fans.
