'Lock Her Up!' Trump Supporters Chant Against Michigan Governor Whitmer

'Lock Her Up!' Trump Supporters Chant Against Michigan Governor Whitmer

"You gotta get your governor to open up your state", said President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Muskegon Saturday.

Most disturbingly Trump mocked the very real danger that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer had faced with the advanced plot to kidnap her and put her on "trial" for her measures to control the spread of coronavirus in her state. And get your school's open.

"Biden and the Democrats want to keep MI locked down and locked up and closed for business", Trump said. "He was having fun at a Trump rally", she said. "Get your governor to open up your state. The schools have to be open right?"

As Trump held a rally in MI on Saturday, he scoffed at Whitmer blaming him for threats against her; and when the crowd chanted "lock her up", he responded with "lock them all up".

Tweeted Whitmer in response: "This is exactly the rhetoric that has put me, my family, and other government officials' lives in danger while we try to save the lives of our fellow Americans".

At the MI rally Saturday, Trump said of Whitmer, "I guess they said she was threatened and she blamed me". Trump answered, "Lock 'em all up".

"I guess they said she was threatened, right?"

After slamming Trump campaign senior adviser Lara Trump on her "obviously unfounded, inappropriate" remark that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is experiencing a cognitive decline while appearing on CNN earlier Sunday morning, Coons said he also found her defense of the President encouraging "lock her up" chants against Whitmer to be "particularly troubling", given the alleged right-wing conspiracy that the Federal Bureau of Investigation foiled earlier this month. Host Jake Tapper pressed her repeatedly on whether the president should tone down his rhetoric, but she said critics were misinterpreting his rally comments.

"He wasn't doing anything, I don't think, to provoke people to threaten this woman at all", she told CNN's State of the Union on Sunday. "Look, the president was at a rally". It's a fun, light atmosphere.

But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday urged Trump to "realize that the words of the president of the United States weigh a ton". "We're glad she's safe, her family is safe".

Pelosi added that this is a "horrible situation" where "the biggest antidote to his poison is the vote".
