Nick Saban, Alabama football coach, on his positive COVID-19 test result

Jacksonville State football coach John Grass has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the Gamecocks' game at North Alabama on Saturday, the school has announced. Of course, that information gave a jolt to college football betting, too.

The news comes 48 hours after Saban's initial positive test and opens up the possibility that Saban could return to coach Saturday night's home game against No. 3 Georgia.

"We took a sharp bet at Georgia +6, and the rest was us staying in front of the market", SuperBook manager and oddsmaker Eric Osterman said.

"A [Polymerase Chain Reaction] PCR test was repeated Thursday by the SEC appointed lab and was negative", Allen said.

"I was notified that I received a positive test result after our most recent round of COVID testing", Grass' statement read in part.

Those two factors are important, because they allow Saban to to be placed in the SEC's protocol for asymptomatic positive tests. "For clarification, the initial positive came from an outside lab we've used to supplement the SEC mandated testing".

According to a statement released by the university, Saban has not experienced any symptoms but confirmed his infection with a second PCR test on Wednesday afternoon.
