Over 100 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Manitowoc County

In its weekly community scorecard, Douglas County hit all of its goals over the past week: The average weekly number of new COVID-19 cases decreased, no high-risk outbreaks were reported, the number of active cases per week decreased and less than 40% of beds and 20% of ventilators were in use at LMH Health.

Those in their 20s continues to be the largest demographic in the county to contract the virus, or 341 cases to date, representing 21 percent of the overall total, county data show.

About 75 per cent of the province's active cases are clustered in the Fraser Health region, which makes up about 39 per cent of B.C.'s population. It was also only the third day since the pandemic began that the province has recorded more than 200 cases, and the second-highest daily total ever recorded, behind only Thursday's record-setting 274 cases. 22 people were also listed as fully recovered, while 145 negative tests came back.

There have been two new health-care facility outbreaks at Laurel Place and Fair Haven Homes Burnaby Lodge.

As of Friday, health officials were monitoring 4,637 people because of exposures to known cases of COVID-19.

111 people in Jackson County have been hospitalized with COVID-19 since the pandemic began, up from 10 at the beginning of July.

In her live update on Thursday, Henry pointed to social gatherings - particularly for weddings, funerals and other significant events - as a major cause of coronavirus transmission in the province.

In the US, more than 8.3 million cases have been reported and more than 222,000 people have died as of Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Meanwhile, a total of 116,693 patients have recovered, or are recovering, and no longer need isolation, according to MDH.

"It is a concerning time because we are entering fall and winter, where people are indoors more, we all must do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19".
