Trump pledges to make Juneteenth federal holiday in bid for Black voters

It is highly unusual that a sitting president would express less than complete confidence in the American democracy's electoral process.

President Donald Trump on Sunday said is "strongly demanding" the Democratic nominee Joe Biden take a drug test ahead of this week's first presidential debate.

Trailing Democratic rival Joe Biden in polls, the U.S. leader refused to rule out the prospect on Wednesday when asked if he would support a peaceful transition. Biden asked incredulously, adding: "I'm being facetious. But it doesn't surprise me".

REFUGEE VOTERS: Tens of thousands of refugees fleeing wars and persecution who were welcomed into the USA are now American citizens voting the first time in what could be the most consequential presidential election of their lifetimes.

The president has repeatedly claimed without evidence that mail-in voting is more susceptible to fraud than in-person voting on Election Day, and that the only way he can lose is through fraud.

But Trump's win over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who won the popular vote by almost 3 million votes but lost the Electoral College battle 304-227, came despite Clinton consistently leading in national polls running up to the 2016 election.

"People who are very chill about the president not committing to the peaceful transfer of power unless they "get rid of the ballots" are too chill for me", tweeted Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz.

'The president when he's joking, if he says that he's joking, he's telling you a half truth, ' Troye said in the CNN interview. "There'll be a continuation".

Mr Trump continued: "And you know who knows it better than anybody else?" "Whether your city is red or blue, I'm going to be there, I promise you".

The New York Times reported last week that in private negotiations with the pharmaceutical industry, the Trump administration demanded that companies "pay for $100 cash cards that would be mailed to seniors before November". "In fact, even talking about it, I think, is irresponsible".

Trump led an airport rally in Mankato on August 17 and another in Bemidji just last Friday, the same day that Democratic challenger Joe Biden visited a union training center in Duluth.
