Turkey criticizes Russia for attack on rebels in Idlib of Syria

Ankara's chief prosecutor launched an investigation against the proprietors of the magazine as condemnations by senior Turkish politicians poured in. Insulting the president is a crime in Turkey punishable by up to four years in prison.

The cover of the weekly features a caricature of Erdogan in a white T-shirt and underwear, sitting in a chair holding a canned beverage and lifting the dress of a hijab-wearing woman to reveal her naked backside.

"I condemn this incorrigible French rag's immoral publication concerning our president", Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay wrote on Twitter.

Vice-President Fuat Oktay called on the global community to raise its voice against "this disgrace".

"Developments in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone were discussed".
