You Can Watch The Northern Lights Dance Over Washington Skies Tonight

The storms have been minor but are expected to move to moderate activity by Tuesday.

The map issued by the SWPC reveals the possible southern range of the aurora, but during the G1 alert periods, it will be seen when looking south to the green line and during the G2 alert, you should look for the aurora to reach as far as south as the yellow line. If you missed yesterday, you can watch it today!

An aurora borealis is most likely to be spotted in the Tri-Cities on Monday night and Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service, with peak hours late Monday evening, September 28, and early Tuesday morning, September 29.

If you live in one of these states, you'll want to keep an eye on the sky tonight for your chance to spot the aurora, so here are some tips for northern lights chasers.

The Northern Lights could be seen as far as Buffalo, Detroit and Chicago!

Irish people will be able to glimpse the Northern Lights over the next few days, according to a prominent Irish astronomy group.

If you live in the northern areas in the US, you have the best chance of catching the northern lights, depending on the weather and other factors.

To see the lights, Wisconsinites will need to get away from city lights, and those in the Milwaukee area may need to head a bit north. However, wind may bring smoke from the California wildfires to Washington, making the night sky harder to see. Aurora Borealis over Buffalo will look very different than those seen in photos from the Arctic Circle as the influence of the earth's magnetic field weakens the closer to the equator, impacting how the Aurora would look elsewhere.
