Former Tournament of Champions victor Buzzy Cohen was also among those feeling the weight of the loss.

Fans of Trebek and Jeopardy! are taking to social media in droves to honor the late star. The 80-year-old was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March 2019.

Alex Trebek's family hasn't released many details regarding the popular host's final hours, but they did report that he passed away at home with his family and friends. He concluded that giving up would only let down other cancer patients, his wife, and God.

Earlier this year, one year after starting treatment, Trebek shared an update on how things were going.

His time on "Jeopardy!" not only touched the lives of millions of Americans who would tune in to to see him quizzing contestants and joking with the audience but also gave him five daytime Emmy Awards as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Trebek began hosting the show in 1984 and was an iconic figure throughout his tenure.

Mike Richards, the show's executive producer, Mike Richards, reminisced about Trebek.

Thakur was asked by Trebek if any family members were cheering for him back home. "I'll keep you posted". On a personal level, I'm excited because it gets me out of the house.

Struggling to hold back his tears, the contestant gave a honest thank you to Trebek for the impact he made on his life.

"So, it's a pretty special moment man. Thank you very much", Thakur added. Trebek was visibly moved by the sentiment.
