Alex Trebek, the Canadian broadcaster who found fame in the United States as a game show host, has died at the age of 80. He was eighty years old. Universally beloved, you never really heard an unkind word about Trebek, who - of course - was lovingly sent up on "Saturday Night Live"'s Celebrity Jeopardy, with Will Ferrell having memorably played the part. Alex had been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer since announcing the news back in March 2019.
Boasting an impressive 8,200 shows over 37 seasons, Trebek is the Guinness World Record holder for hosting the most episodes of a single game show.
He was surrounded by family and loved ones, according to a statement from Sony.
Alex Trebek hosted "Jeopardy!" since 1984, when the show began airing daily in syndication.
Former Jeopardy! contestant Buzzy Cohen was among the first to pay tribute to Mr Trebek. "Even if this show hadn't changed my life in so many ways, this loss would be immeasurable", Mr Cohen tweeted.
