Harden fixated on Nets after rejecting extension worth $50M per season

Westbrook reportedly wanted to be traded, while Harden was said to be committed to the team.

Harden on the Nets would give Brooklyn a true Big 3 of two former MVP's and three of the most explosive offensive players on the planet.

But as ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports, Harden is turning down the extension so the Rockets will trade him to the Brooklyn Nets.

It would take Harden's five-year deal at the Rockets to the stunning figure of $272 million ($NZ394m).

"I immediately thought this was Daryl Morey leaving, and Mike D'Antoni leaving, and Russell Westbrook and James Harden going 'no offense to Stephen Silas or Rafael Stone, but we don't want a starter kit, we're playing for a championship, '" Bucher said on the podcast.

The latest offer from the Rockets would see Harden take in $US103 million in the final two years of his contract - more than $140 million, or $70 million per season.

As both of their superstars return from long injuries, the Nets instantly become the favorites to be the best in the East and strong contenders to the Lakers.

The Rockets were selling Harden, 31, on the idea of an extension that would help to complete his career in Houston, but so far he's rejecting that idea.

It looks like Harden could end up in Brooklyn. So maybe there's some silver lining here.

To understand why the rapidly deteriorating situation between the Houston Rockets and James Harden is confusing and simple at the same time, you must go back to its origins. Meanwhile, Harden played alongside Irving for Team USA in their gold medal triumph at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
