Needless to say, the 5G chip available on the iPhone 12 is the one that's the most expensive.
Fomalhaut Techno Solutions released their report on the bill of materials, in collaboration with Nikkei Asia, (BoM) for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, which provides a close approximation of the component costs of building the two phones.
Apple's iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro are the latest premium flagship smartphones from the company with new features like 5G support, MagSafe, and LiDAR scanner.
Do note that, the iPhone 12 Pro costs Rs. 119,900 in India, making it one of the most expensive iPhones, especially for the 512GB storage, which costs nearly Rs. 1.5 lakhs. According to the report, the iPhone 12 BoM costs $373 (Roughly Rs 27,550), while the iPhone 12 Pro's BoM is $406 (Roughly Rs 30,000). This shows that the BoM for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are less than half of the original price for the two devices. The OLED panel that's installed on the iPhone 12 is rather expensive too, as Apple pays $70 for it, while the Bionic chip, which the company is always making a big fuss about it, has an estimated cost of $40. The cost of these sensors per unit is around $7.4 to $7.9. These parts of the iPhone 12 Pro have been sourced from various countries, where the majority of them are coming from the USA, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. This chart shows the percentage of a component provided by different regions. It should be noted that Chinese coins represent only 4.6% of iPhone 12 Pro, although Chinese companies account for the bulk of the final assembly.
