Two arrested at problem Etobicoke BBQ restaurant

Adam Skelly, owner of Adamson Barbecue in Toronto, faces 13 charges, including trespassing, violating indoor dining rules, and holding an illegal gathering, after police said he broke into his own restaurant and opened it to the public for the third day in a row, CBC reported.

Both men have been issued a summons under 'Failing to Comply with the Reopening Ontario Act'.

He appeared in court at Finch Avenue West on Friday and was released on bail until his next appearance, now scheduled for January 4.

Skelly has been a major big thorn in the side of Premier Doug Ford and Mayor John Tory this week.

"I've spoken to the police chief this morning ... and they have a plan".

But a day later he changed his tone. That's how this spreads, people are dying from Covid, and he just wants to say forget it? "It is absolutely irresponsible and ridiculous", Ford fumed.

"You're putting people's lives in jeopardy".

"At the end of the day this a public health crisis", he added.

Skelly hasn't confirmed reports that he plans to open again on Thursday, but Sinopoli said if he did, action would be taken. "The strategy will change from day-to-day depending on what we're faced with".

If Skelly is able to access this crowd funding money, he will have capital to mount a legal challenge. "We continue to ask for calm", police said in a tweet.

The slow-cooked drama began on Monday night when Skelly posted a message on his business' Instagram page saying he would open for full-service Tuesday.

On Tuesday, many unmasked patrons packed into the dining room on Queen Elizabeth Boulevard.

After a tense confrontation between protesters and officials, the officers can be seen on the video that emerged online taking Skelly away in handcuffs.

Enforcement is determined and undertaken by law enforcement and City staff only.

On Wednesday, he told the Toronto Sun he not only fully meant to open today but would bring "five times" the amount of food to serve everybody.

Police officers showed up to the location in the early morning hours accompanied by locksmiths.

After officer entered the restaurant, a group of supporters chanting "freedom, freedom" followed.

A few hours later, several city bylaw officers arrived.

A restaurant owner in Toronto has been arrested for repeatedly attempting to defy the city's ban on indoor dining, even going so far as to break into his own establishment and kick open the door for customers.
