Former Baltimore Ravens running back Lorenzo Taliaferro dies at 28

Former Baltimore Ravens player Lorenzo Taliaferro died on Wednesday afternoon.

Taliaferro was 28 years old. Medics arrived on scene and took the patient, identified as Taliaferro, to a local hospital, where he later died.

Deputies were dispatched to an apartment in Williamsburg, Va., around 3 p.m. after the sheriff's office said they received a call from someone in need of medical attention - later identified as Taliaferro. We can not release any medical information.

"Lorenzo was a kind, smart and respectful young man - someone always committed to his teammates and well-liked by everyone in our organization", Ravens coach John Harbaugh wrote on Twitter.

The Yorktown, Virginia native was selected by Baltimore in the fourth round, 138th overall during in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Taliaferro was a 6-foot, 232-pound bruiser who added physicality to the Ravens' backfield, and he showed promise early in his National Football League career.

After a year out of football, he tried to make it with the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a defensive player in 2018 but was cut after the preseason.

Taliaferro played for the Ravens from 2014 to 2016.

In his third game that season, Taliaferro rushed for 91 yards and scored a touchdown in a 23-21 victory against the Cleveland Browns.
