Gulftimes : Partial solar eclipse seen from Qatar

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the angular diameter of the Moon falls short of that of the Sun such that it can not cover up the latter completely.

From the rest of the country, it will be visible as partial solar eclipse.

The event occurs as the moon passes in front of the sun, covering the sun's center and leaving a blazing ring of light around the moon's silhouette.

According to the parents, the belief was passed on to them from their elders and they have stuck to it in hopes of seeing their children recover from their disabilities.

Countries on either side of this path will only experience partial eclipsing to various degrees.

On the other hand, another parent, who was at the beach with his 20-year-old son Waleed, said he would be practicing the ritual for the very first time.

"The next solar eclipse, which will be a partial solar eclipse, visible from India will take place on October 25, 2022". As the few rays of light that managed to seep out from behind the moon hit his face, his disquiet became even more evident.

The eclipse can also be viewed online here.

Named after English astronomer Francis Baily, Baily's beads are arc of bright spots seen during total and annular eclipses of the Sun. The moon is in the farthest orbit away from the Earth, which means that it will not be able to cover the sun completely. "Better to see a shorter eclipse from clear sky than a longer eclipse under clouds".

The coast-to-coast eclipse on August 21 of that year carved a 70-mile wide path of totality from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic, with hordes of people donning solar eclipse glasses to experience the unusual event.

The eclipse is known as a "ring of fire" because the moon covered most, but not all, of the sun.

"Good weather is the key to successful eclipse viewing", astrophysicist Fred Espenak, an expert on eclipse prediction, commented on the NASA Eclipse website.

Never look directly at the Sun without proper eye protection.

It will take less than 100 minutes for the path of this eclipse to move across the continent. You can get a projected image of the eclipsed Sun. The maximum eclipse will be at 12:10 pm.
