The Portugal International defeated arch rival, Lionel Messi as well as Liverpool and Egypt forward, Mohamed Salah to scoop the award at the ceremony held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Ronaldo and Messi are considered by many as one of the greatest footballers to have played the game. The duo has together snagged 11 Ballon d'Or awards as well and thus stamping their dominance.
The 35-year-old Ronaldo won league titles in England, Spain and Italy where he's now playing for Juventus.
The five-time UEFA Champions League victor (four with Real Madrid, one with Man Utd) led the Portugal national team to win their first-ever major title, the UEFA EURO 2016.
"Real Madrid are such a successful club thanks to the support of our many fans who drive us to constantly grow", said Emilio Butragueno, who received the award on Real Madrid's behalf. "Finally, I'd like to wish you all the best in what has been such a hard year and we hope we can get life back to normal and enjoy our passion that is football, with our fans once again".
"I am really proud, but without a team, great coaches and clubs it is not possible", Ronaldo said.
With matches being held behind the closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic, Ronaldo admitted it's boring to play without fans. My passion is always football.
"Thank you, to everyone who voted for me, to my family, to my mother and sisters", Cristiano said. It's so weird. I like when people boo Cristiano.
The Globe Soccer Awards 2020 has recognised Real Madrid as the Best Club of the 21st Century. Real Madrid were named club of the century.
