Discovery makes OTT debut in 12 European markets

Later in 2021, Vodafone will offer the service to its mobile customers in the UK, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Romania, Portugal, Greece, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, and Iceland.

Comcast Corp-owned NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming service, which launched on July 15, did not become available on Roku until September 21.

The most recent agreement with Vodafone will grant Discovery access to over 100 million television, fixed broadband and mobile-subscribers across Europe. Vodafone's vast and deep consumer relationships will provide a powerful engine for discovery+ as together we bring the definitive destination for real-life entertainment to consumers across Europe.

Last month, Discovery CEO and president David Zaslav said: "We have been working methodically the past two years to bring all of our strategic advantages to the launch of Discovery+, including distribution and advertising partnerships around the world, a world-class offering of quality brands, authentic personalities and the largest content library at launch, as well as a broad slate of exclusive programming". The rollout in 12 markets is planned during the course of 2021 and 2022. "Discovery will be a key part of our Entertainment offer, providing a rich choice of content that will enhance Vodafone's provision of a superior customer experience across its high-quality TV and flexible streaming services". We are very pleased that our relationship with Vodafone continues to grow.

At launch, discovery+ will in fact include 4K content on the service.

Newly announced discovery+ launch sponsors include La-Z-Boy, Aflac, Campbell's, Subaru of America, Inc. and Ace Hardware. Eurosport will be an Official Broadcaster in France and the United Kingdom for Tokyo 2020. It is available on Amazon Fire TV (and will be coming to Amazon Prime Channels later), Apple i-devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) and Apple TV, Google living room devices (Chromecast with Google TV, Android TV), Android, Microsoft Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Roku, and 2017 and newer Samsung smart TVs. Discovery+ is also promising over 150 hours of original content from more than 50 titles on day one.

Discovery+ features more than 55,000 episodes of current and classic shows from Discovery's portfolio of networks, including HGTV, Food Network, TLC, ID, OWN, Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and the forthcoming Magnolia Network.
